Why the Frick is Cho there???

Why the frick not?

She’s a winy ass girl. Seriously, she used to be badass, now she just cries and whines about everything.

How can you watch Cho Chang endure all of the things she has gone through (most notably her first love being murdered by the most dangerous wizard in history) and chastise her for being sad about it? Emotion doesn’t make you weak and it definitely doesn’t negate badassery.

I’m not saying that she is weak because of that. I’m just saying that she could have overcome that sadness. Her and Cedric were in love and I doubt that Cedric would have wanted her to wallow in self pity like she did. He would have wanted her to get up off her ass and go live her life! He liked her for her strong character and with his death, she lost that strength. She turned into one of the weak background characters instead of one of the strong minor characters that she started out as. So she is weak because she sat around. She could have gotten shit done in the DA quickly and she sure as Hell wouldn’t have ratted the DA out if Cedric were still alive. Grief can only cover so much and she just went from grief stricken to being under a grief imperious. She turned weak minded.

She could have overcome that sadness, but she didn’t because she didn’t have to. No one can choose how they handle grief because life doesn’t work that way. And it wasn’t Cho that betrayed the DA, it was Marietta Edgecombe. Cho remained loyal, even returning to Hogwarts to fight in the last battle after she had graduated. Physical strength and bravery aren’t the only ways to be a badass and being sad that your first love was murdered doesn’t make you weak-minded either.

She may not have had to but she should have. If you’re in a war then you should expect things like this. It wasn’t a perfect world and everyone knew that Voldemort would possibly come back so the haze of happiness couldn’t last. But, once again, if she really loved Cedric as she said she had, then she wouldn’t have let the grief control her like she did. Her grief distracted her! She could have accomplished so much more had she placed it to the side till the end. She should have focused her grief somewhere else, perhaps on her training. Grief is a great fuel for anger and hers would have been able to take down hoards of death eaters had she focused it on that. But she didn’t. She focused her grief on herself. She forced herself into a haze of self pity and that harmed her in the end, perhaps not physically, but mentally. Out of the female characters listed in this chart, she is the weakest, or one of the weakest, because she let her grief hinder her.

SHE WAS FIFTEEN OR SIXTEEN WHEN THIS HAPPENED. She was still a kid. Her first love was MURDERED. That’s not something you just bounce back from. I don’t know what kind of fucking world you think she lived in but until you live in it you can just step down and stop criticizing her. Her grief didn’t make her weak. It made her real.

No shit she was still a kid and no shit he was murdered. She didn’t fucking witness it though. I’ve seen the body after a murder, just like she did, and it was someone I knew really well. I’m not saying she shouldn’t have grieved, I’m not saying she shouldn’t have allowed herself to be weak, I’m saying she should have fucking sucked it up when it mattered instead of hiding behind someone else. She his behind Cedric’s memory and thought that, even with him gone, he would protect her. They’re in the middle of a war and she thinks its a good idea to let everyone else protect her until she has no one left to protect her and has to protect herself. She’s weak because she doesn’t deal with the grief differently. Wallowing in self pity doesn’t help shit, it gets you fucking killed.

What will it take to make you realize that just because you’ve been in a similar situation and reacted differently, that doesn’t mean everyone has to or is even able to react as you did (for the record, I’ve been in a very similar situation too and don’t expect anyone to react differently or the same as I did)? What will it take to make you realize that there is not only one right way to grieve? What will it take to make you realize that being sad that your first love was murdered does not mean you’re wallowing in self pity, just reacting how most people would react? What will it take to make you realize that being sad about your first love being murdered doesn’t mean you are weak, weak-minded or letting it consume you (which she didn’t)? What will it take to make you remember that Cho Chang did not hide and let other people protect her — she fought bravely in the final battle alongside everyone else?

You know what? Everyone has their own opinions and I’ll keep mine while you can keep yours. I still think that she is a weak character, no matter what you say. She can be your strongest character or whatever but she will remain the weakest to me. The way she was depicted after Cedric’s death was an extreme let down to what she was; a strong willed, feminine character with a challenging streak worthy of the fiery red headed temper. The broken character who isn’t any of that anymore, no matter the fact her fighting alongside them during the BoH, is not a strong minor character, not even a strong supporting character.
